Victim named in fatal Scott County crash

GATE CITY — Police have identified a Kentucky woman as the victim in Monday’s fatal two-vehicle collision in Scott County, adding that charges are pending.

The wreck occurred shortly before 1 p.m. on Route 23 near Clinchport. According to the Virginia State Police, a 2006 Toyota Corolla was traveling south and attempting to turn left at the intersection with Route 871. While doing so, the adult male driver allegedly pulled into the path of a Chevrolet pickup.

The Chevrolet struck the Corolla in the side. The Toyota’s passenger, Tammy G. Boyd, 52, of Morehead, Kentucky, was killed at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport for treatment of serious injuries. The VSP reported that both he and Boyd were not wearing their seatbelts.

Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. She had been identified as a 35-year-old woman from Clintwood. She was wearing her seatbelt.

The Virginia State Police said their investigation of the incident is continuing.
