Editor’s note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Davis girls golf trailed Bingham after the first round of the 6A state tournament. It should have said that Davis trailed Lone Peak. That is now reflected in the story. The Standard-Examiner regrets the error.

Davis girls golf sits in second place after the first round of the 6A girls golf state championships. The Darts shot a team score of 302, just two strokes behind first-place Lone Peak (300) at Meadow Brook Golf Course in Taylorsville.

Caylyn Ponich led the Davis contingent by firing a 3-under 69 and is in a three-way tie for second place on the individual leaderboard.

Katelyn Day (Davis) is in 11th place after shooting 80, with teammate Victoria Castro right behind her after carding an 81.

Northridge’s Shelby VanAusdal and Fremont’s Sierra Wallace also shot 81. Northridge’s Abbi Cowan is in a tie for 16th after shooting 83, with Weber High’s Claudia Vinacco in 18th after an 84.

As a team, Fremont, Weber and Northridge all made the cut to go to the second round. Bingham’s Tess Blair shot 7-under 65 and has a four-shot lead heading to the final round.

Bountiful sits in second place after the first day of the 5A state golf tournament, 20 shots behind Corner Canyon. Jobi Einerson carded a 2-over 74 to finish in second place after the first round, two shots behind individual leader Cora Mickelson from Alta.

The Braves’ Vanna Einerson shot 83. Talia Jackson from Woods Cross shot the Wildcats’ low round of 88 while Viewmont’s Tallie Mortensen paced the Vikings with a 91.

Bonneville scored two runs in the first inning and three more in the second to stave off elimination in the 4A state playoffs by shutting out Canyon View.

Sadie Westmoreland went 2 for 4 with a double, Sydnee Smith hit a two-run double in the second inning
